SAFFRON DICKSON
This design brings together Chinese and Scottish traditions through both silhouette and fabric, creating a dialogue between two distinct cultural heritages. By combining Scottish tartan with Chinese brocade, I aimed to explore how symbols from different cultures can coexist in harmony—each maintaining its identity while contributing to a unified whole.
The use of these textiles reflects my own mixed heritage as someone who is half Scottish and half Chinese. This fusion of materials and cultural design elements serves not only as a personal expression of identity but also as a broader commentary on hybridity and cultural intersection.
By reinterpreting traditional fabrics within a contemporary silhouette, the piece reimagines heritage through a modern lens—honouring the past while celebrating the possibilities of cross-cultural design.
